Dear Neighbor,
Times change and we need to change with the times. It’s important for us, as residents of the Village and Township of Darien to be proactive in the continuation of our fire and emergency medical services (EMS). Our goal
is to provide the response, protection and service that we are accustomed to and meet the expectations of our citizens.

Please take some time to review the information in this brochure. I am sure you will have many questions. Please plan to attend one of our informational meetings and get the answers.

As Fire Chief, I strongly believe this is the crucial time to make changes to help residents and visitors in their time of need.

Sincerely,
Chief Justin Schuenke
Darien Fire & EMS

REFERENDUM QUESTION AND TAX IMPACT

The Darien Village Board has chosen to put a referendum question on the ballot on November 3rd relating to a Joint Proposal for 24/7/365 Shared Staffing Fire and Paramedic Level EMS Services in cooperation with the Town of Darien, the Village and the Town of Sharon, and the Village and Town of Walworth. The Board wants to know if you, as residents, are willing to pay additional taxes for additional Fire/EMS service. The Village’s portion of the cost of the Shared Staffing Service is based on a formula using equalized value, population, and past call volume. The table below shows the amount of money requested in the referendum question and its estimated impact on taxes for the next three years.
